AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND PROTECTION EXPERTS (EMPE) OF THE RAINBOW THUNDER
Ø To advance international convention on environment and human development as well as contributing to the promotion of freedom, peace, alleviation of poverty and a general improvement of human development.
Ø To help in the achievement of environmental protection and sustainable development.
Ø To promote the guiding principles of participation, transparency, certainty, accountability, credibility, cost-effectiveness, flexibility and practicality as applied to Environmental Impact Assessments.
Ø To promote studies, surveys, research and analyses for the improvement and protection of the environment and the maintenance of sound social, economic, institutional and ecological systems.
Ø To initiate and pursue formal and non-formal educational policies, plans, programmes and projects for the creation of public awareness of the environment and its importance to natural resources, socio-cultural parameters and the environment as a whole.
Ø To collaborate with local, foreign and international agencies for the protection and management of the environment.
Ø To conduct investigations into environmental issues and advise decision-makers thereon.
Ø To collaborate with government agencies and other institutions in the control and prevention of discharge of waste into the environment and the protection and improvement of the quality of the environment.
Ø To advice decision-makers on the formulation of policies, plans, programmes and projects on all aspects of the environment and in particular make recommendations for the protection of the environment.
Ø To act in co-operation and liaison with government agencies and other institutions to control pollution and generally protect the environment.
Ø To reinforce and restructure project Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in order to make it more efficient.
Ø To incorporate the environment into sector-specific decision-making.
Ø To help minimize limitations of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment (SEA).
Ø To advance the core values of good sustainability, integrity and utility as applied to Environmental Impact Assessment.
Ø To advance the operating principles of Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment recognized by international conventions, treaties and agreements.
Ø To assist proponents to plan; decision-makers to decide; and the public to understand proposals and their impacts.
Ø To promote the understanding of likely environmental consequences of new developments.
Ø To advance the understanding of the implications of proposed interventions.
Ø To identify good measures by which impacts can be mitigated.
Ø To better the ways in which results are presented in the provision of answers needed by stakeholders.
